Barcelona Boy Won

Just announced few hours ago; Barcelona boy Lionel Messi became the European Footballer of the year for 2009. He got 473 votes out of possible 480 voters (98.5%). This is the top most position that he can reach, since getting into the list in 2007 at P3, and then last year at P2. It was a slowly but surely climb for this boy.

His competitors were left far behind; Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo at P2 with 233 votes and Barcelona's Xavi at P3 with 170 votes.

His testimonial after winning this award:
1) Greatest margin won by a winner (240 votes)
2) Highest number of votes (473 votes)
3) First Argentinian footballer winner
4) Second youngest winner at age 22 (youngest was Michael Owen at age 21)
Ole! Ole!
