Dental Care For Children

Going to the dentist is a frightening experience for everyone. More so, for children who are still inexperience in experiencing the pain in their life. Therefore, making their visitors as comfortable as possible is one of the challenges for dentists.

I have some comfort after reading what Children's Choice Pediatric Dental Care describe about their vision, principles and procedures. I would not hesitate to bring my kids there if I get the chance because Dental Care for Children is as important as adult's. Some of the services offered that aims to enhance positive experience are anesthesia and sedation, nitrous oxide "laughing gas" and special needs children. Anesthesia and sedation are used to soothe children who may have extreme apprehension, disabilities or extensive treatment. The safer option is to use Nitrous oxide, as it can reduce anxiety and gagging in children.

It is important to take extra care for primary “baby” teeth, as it plays a significant and functional role in children. They function to maintain a proper nutrition and chewing, speech development and guiding facial growth, and saving space for permanent teeth. Visiting to dentist/specialist should be practiced shortly after the first tooth appears and no later than his first birthday. It is advisable to make the first appointment to meet an orthodontic specialist by age of 7 because orthodontic problems can be corrected at this early stage. It will be rather late when treatment is sought after the jaw growth has slowed, where surgery and serious complications are possible to occur.

There are ways to protect our children early from the cavities and other teeth problems. Sealant is normally used to protect the chewing surface of healthy back teeth, and it is an important step to take to prevent cavities from occurring, as 80% of the cavities is located at the back teeth. Fluoride is essential for tooth decay reduction. Usually, children need to take the fluoride supplements when it does not contain in the drinking water. The amount of fluoride needed is controlled according to his age, and problem such as fluorosis may occur if the amount is incorrect.
