Just read this headline on Malaysian Insider: MALAYSIA'S BROADBAND QUALITY IS BELOW PAR, SAYS OXFORD STUDY. It reported that Malaysia is in lower ranking with a "below today’s applications threshold” broadband speed. Our position and condition is worse than our neighbours Singapore and Thailand, as expected and we have Indonesia and the Philippines in the same grouping. It sounds like our football position in South East Asia.
The requirement for Malaysia to move up to "meeting needs of today’s applications" level is to have download speeds of 3.75 Mbps and upload of 1 Mbps. This is just the basic requirement for us to surf Youtube, Facebook and Skype without breaking. I'm not surprised that we are in this position with our government's famous motto "Having Third World Mentality, But Thinking of Having First World Infrastructure". Again, we need an international research to tell our government, especially the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture of our shortcoming.
That's why Digi came up with this contest called "Pimp My Broadband". I hope they achieve success in improving what we have now, and don't wish to read this study again next year telling us we are successfully moving few steps closer to the bottom of the list.
